Site 2 consists of a church, school, market and bus terminal. The Rochor Transport Exchange will be located on the current Victoria Wholesale Market site, at the cross junction of the 2 most congested roads in the Rochor-Ophir area. The Canal, extending sideways will occupy the current terminal, allowing the formation of a river terminal for water transport. Establishing connectivity within out site is the crux of our design. Pertinent issues present are poor transport, exacerbated by insufficient parking spaces and the un-strategic placement of bus and taxi lanes entering the terminal. By designing the Exchange, we have succeeded in providing a holistic transport network system not only in site 2 but in the Exchange as well.
The inter-connectivity of transport within the Exchange is achieved as follows: The functional yet well-designed ramps on the exterior away from the designated bus entrances allow direct car access to the floor of their selected parking spaces without inconvenience caused by buses.
Also, the conversion of one way lanes to two way lanes will facilitate smooth running of transport in and out of the Exchange. The exits, unlike the previous bus terminal, are now facing the main roads giving vehicles direct access to the main roads. On top of re-orienting the flow of traffic, we have decreased the number of commuters on the road by introducing water transport, giving commuters more transport options. The smooth flow of human traffic will be facilitated by the presence of numerous routes out of the Exchange to different destinations. For the convenience of the commuters, retail shops and cafeterias can be found in here. Additionally, the rooftop garden will serve as the green lungs of the area as well as provide a relaxing area for the commuters. By having an orderly transport route within and outside of the Exchange, the Rochor Transport Exchange has succeeded in establishing proper connectivity in site 2 and its surrounding areas.
